Hello! I’m Nathan Green. You rock for being here. Welcome to my portfolio.
I’m a director, currently residing in Chicago, IL. I co-founded an ensemble-based theater company called Fish and Bicycle Theatre in Atlanta. Then I worked at Actors Theatre of Louisville for a year before making it to Chicago by way of Cape Cod, MA, where Fish and Bicycle was living out a bizarre social & artistic experiment… There are links to galleries of shows I have directed on the right.
As far as theater goes, I’m interested in:
- theater that is/becomes an event/adventure for the audience
- ensemble-generated/devised work
- new technology/human computer interaction/the internet in the experience of live events
- new ways to use classic texts
- the physically impossible
- communal rocking out
- awesome storytelling
- combinations of all that
I’m also a musician. I play guitar in a funk/soul band called Funky Hot Grits. I studied classical and jazz guitar in college, as well as computer music composition. I sang bass in choirs. I played caixa in a Brazilian Samba group. I played kempul in an Indonesian Gamelan. But before all that I played in a world beat band sponsored by Peter Gabriel. Before that I played in a rock band. So I’ve posted some music from way-back-when. There’s a link on the right.
Please enjoy the stuff I’ve put up on the site. Let me know what you think.
Also, check out the blog I created detailing the creation of Charles Mee’s Under Construction (a show I worked on) directed by Anne Bogart, created and peformed by the SITI Company at the Humana Festival of New American Plays 2009.
Peace!
-Nate
